Steps to set up the old Status feature on WhatsApp

After getting complaints and feedback from users, WhatsApp has finally brought its old Status feature back. The app had removed textual updates in a previous update, replacing them with disappearing photo and video-based statuses.

We know that majority of people already know how to post text based status updates in WhatsApp. But you can't easily find the reintroduced feature, here are a few simple steps you can follow to update a text based status.

Note: The feature is available only in WhatsApp's latest Android app version . It will be available for iOS users later.
Steps to set text based Status in WhatsApp Messenger

Step 1: Inside the app, tap on the three dot icon at the top right corner.

Step 2: Choose the 'Settings' option.

Step 3: Tap on your profile picture or name above the options such as Account, Chats, Notifications and more.

Step 4: Select the status message in the 'About and phone number' section.

Step 5: Finally, click on the pencil shaped icon and type in whatever status message you want to write.

The old status feature comes with some default text such as Available, Busy, Battery about to die and more. It is worth noting that with the return of the old status, the company has not removed the recently-introduced photo/video status updates. They are still available via a separate 'Status' tab in the app.

WhatsApp's new 'Status Stories' feature was introduced last month to iOS, Android and Windows 10 Mobile platforms. It allows users to share photos, GIFs and videos that can be edited with drawings, emojis and captions. These status are only available for 24 hours, after which they vanishes automatically.
